Breeda,

Thank you very much for the information concerning the pre planning meeting.

I will shortly be sending a copy of it to my brother and half-sister, for the purpose of preparing and applying for a pre planning meeting sometime before the end of August 2005.

Regards,

Billy Finnerty.

William,

The name of the Planner for the Roscommon Area is Tracey Davis.  You will need to request a pre planning meeting in writing specifying that you require a pre planning meeting under section 247 of the Planning & Development Act, 2000.  You will also need to submit a site location map with the site identified.  You can send your request to

Tracey Davis
Roscommon County Council
Courthouse
Roscommon.

Breeda Burke

Breeda,

Thank you for the information.

I have now found the map (on the Internet) and I plan to look at it more closely sometime within the coming few days.

In the meantime, I would be very grateful if you could please let me have the name and contact information for the Planner for the Roscommon Area (who you have mentioned below).

Regards,

William Finnerty.

William,

The map referred to is available as a seperate option under the Roscommon Town Plan. It is an A1 map and is in pdf format.  If you cannot open it, it is available for inspection at the Planning Offices, Roscommon County Council or you can purchase a copy for €4.

Perhaps you should consider arranging a pre planning meeting with the Planner for the Roscommon Area who would be able to advise regarding your proposals.

Breeda Burke

Breeda,

Thank you for the information.

There is mention on page 1 of the Roscommon Town Development Plan 2002 of a "Land Use and Specific Objectives Map", and I cannot it.

Is it on the Internet somewhere?

Regards,

William Finnerty.

Dear Breda and Patricia,

Following on from my e-mails to you of yesterday, I have now sent the information you let me have to my brother (Gerald Finnerty).

There is some additional help which you and your colleagues at Roscommon County Council might hopefully (?) be able to let me have, and it relates to the section of central government's Oasis "Planning Page" (at http://www.oasis.gov.ie/housing/planning_permission/planning_permission_general.html ) which states: "Your local authority will also be able to tell you whether your proposals are likely to comply with the development plan for your area."

Regarding this particular point, my brother Gerald's situation is possibly a little unusual in that he does not have any particular proposal in mind for the 30 acre (or so) site he owns at Lisnamult.

I feel I should also explain very briefly that when my brother Gerald reached retirement age last year, and decided that he would like to sell the full plot in Lisnamult, which he is the full legal owner of , he very kindly volunteered to give myself and our half-sister (Ms Margie Dolan) a percentage of the sum he eventually hopes to receive for this piece of land (which once belonged to our grandparents). Consequently, all three of us now have a vested interest in getting the best price we can.

However, and competing with our efforts to get the best price, I believe it is true to say, and it is certainly so in my case, that we would all like to see the plot of land being used for whatever purpose would most benefit most of the people of Roscommon.  With that in mind, we would consider very seriously any suggestions or proposals (or guidance) Roscommon County Council might like to let us have in this respect.  All proposals/suggestions relating to such things as family homes, a sports complex, education facilities, a business park, a heritage centre, a shopping centre, an hotel, or indeed any combination of such things you consider appropriate in relation to your development plan, would, I believe, be entirely acceptable to all three of us.  (We would also of course seriously consider any local "wished-for" projects not included in this list, provided they were acceptable to your office.)

Given some such suggestions from your office, and assuming that it would be possible and appropriate for Roscommon County Council to do this in the circumstances, I would then set about exploring the possibilty of finding a suitable architect to draw up plans for the proposal, with a view to presenting them later, in the normal way, to Roscommon County Council for approval.

I look forward to hearing from you regarding the above.  Please note that although none of the three of us are in any huge rush, we do nonetheless have it in our minds to try and have the sale of the 30 acre site in Lisnamult completed by around the end of February 2006.

Before concluding, it might be worth mentioning that all three of us have strong links with Roscommon. Margie lived for much of her life with her grandparents (Tom and Deila Finneran) in Quarry House, and she worked for Roscommon County Council for several years up to the time of taking early retirement around 1970.

Myself and Gerald visited Quarry House many times during the 1950s before our grandparents died, and to a lesser extent after that up to the time our mother sold Quarry House (in the 1980s).

As Finnertys, myself and Gerald also have broken links (from long ago) with Donamon. If interested, there is some further family history information at the following Internet addresses:

Finneran (Quarry House):

Finnerty (Donamon):

Yours sincerely,

William (Billy) Finnerty.

PS:  I'm not sure if your office has yet been given a map of the 30 acre site belonging to my brother Gerald at Lisnamult.  If not, please let me know and I will arrrange to have one sent to you.

Printed copies through normal post to:

Gerald Finnerty & Margie Dolan (New Inn, County Galway).
